TEACHING STATEMENT

I believe that learning is an evolving and continuous process. We learn by doing.

I foster a space that brings students face to face with unfamiliar experiences as individuals and as a collective. I challenge students to think for themselves as they explore how to relate curricular ideas to personal identity, local community, and the larger world.

My guiding values are safety and support. It is most important to me that I build intentional and supportive relationships with my students in order to encourage their growth in a lasting, meaningful way.

COLLEGE DANCE TEAM PREP CLASS

Want to audition for a collegiate dance team, but not sure where to start?

Join this 2 hour class for a supportive space to hone your skills - all levels of experience welcome!

This class will cover college dance team movement techniques, sidelines chants/combos, and self-presentation. We will kick things off with a cardio/strength-based warm up and stretch emphasizing safety. Next, we will work across the floor and in center to refine beginner to advanced leaps, pirouettes, and other technical elements commonly required at the college level. A brief jazz-pom combination will follow that challenges participants to incorporate their own personal style - just like a real audition! We will also learn 2 short sideline chants and combos to bolster projection in voice and performance. In an ending Q&A session, Emily will provide insider advice surrounding interview strategies, collegiate research, and any other questions you have. You don't want to miss this!

Open To: High school and college age groups

What To Wear: Something in which you can move comfortably and confidently

What To Bring: Jazz shoes, tennis shoes, water bottle
